Just realized my spindle speed formula was off by 15% for aluminum
I ran a batch of 6061 parts on my Haas mini mill last week and kept getting chatter no matter what I did. Turns out I was using the old 1980s rule of thumb from my first shop in Dayton, but the tooling and coatings have changed so much since then. I bumped the RPM from 8000 to 9200 and switched to a higher chip load, night and day difference. Anyone else still running outdated speeds because that's how their old timer taught them?
