Those recommended speeds are more like a suggestion box, and the suggestion is usually "buy more end mills." Learned that one the expensive way too.

Ever wonder who actually runs their machine at those numbers, @rubyw70? Feels like the manual is written for perfect conditions that never happen in real life. You just end up learning the hard way.
