PSA: Watch how the old guys eyeball a first article, not just the numbers on the screen
Back in 1999 I was running a Bridgeport knee mill at a job shop in Gary, Indiana, and this operator named Ray, who had 30 years in, watched me mic a part for like 10 minutes without saying anything. Finally he picked up my part, ran his thumb across the chamfer, and asked me if I felt that little ridge. I said no. He said the print called for a 0.015 break and mine was closer to 0.005, and no mic was ever gonna catch that. He grabbed a file, fixed it in about 8 seconds, and handed it back without another word. I still catch myself feeling edges with my thumb before I trust a measurement. Any of you still keep that habit, or is it all CMM and probes now?
