Ran a test part 4 times before I realized my tool offset was wrong

I had this job for a bracket that needed a tight .001 tolerance on the bore. I kept cutting and measuring, cutting and measuring, and it was still off by .003 every time. After 45 minutes and 3 scrap parts, my coworker walks over and points out I had the wrong tool in the offset table. What's the longest you've chased a ghost problem like that?

Nodding along because that moisture thing would drive me absolutely insane.

The .003 thing is brutal but at least it was consistent! What really got me was a job where my surface finish looked fine to the naked eye but kept failing profilometer checks. Spent two days adjusting feeds, speeds, coolant - the whole deal. Turns out the shop air was dumping moisture into my coolant line and messing with the lubrication. I literally pulled my hair out over that one. The worst ghost problems are the ones that seem random, not consistent like your offset thing.
