Spent 4 hours chasing a 0.002 inch offset on a Haas VF-2 today
Turns out the coolant nozzle was nudged just enough to mess with the tool setter readings. Has anyone else been fooled by something that simple?

Man that's the kind of stuff that makes you want to throw the whole machine out the window. I had a similar thing happen where a tiny piece of swarf got stuck on the tool setter pad and it threw off all my offsets by like a thou and a half. Spent a whole shift changing tools and re-calibrating before I noticed a little brass chip just sitting there looking innocent.

3 thou and a half off is brutal man. I spent 3 hours last week chasing a 0.002" offset on a Haas. Turned out a stray piece of packing tape was stuck to the vise jaw. It's always the dumbest stuff. Life's like that too though. You spend all day trying to fix some big problem and it ends up being a tiny little thing you overlooked. A dirty sensor in your car. A hair in the sink drain. One wrong number in a spreadsheet. The big stuff breaks in obvious ways. The small stuff just sneaks up on you and wastes your whole day.
