Spindle load meter readings caught me off guard this week

The boss finally let me run the new Haas VF-2 and I saw the load meter hit 112% on an 18mm rougher in 6061 before I backed off the feed, has anyone else noticed these machines can take way more than the charts suggest?

Those load meters are more of a guideline than a hard limit, especially on newer Haas machines. 112% on a rougher in 6061 isn't crazy, the machine will just push through it, but it does stress the spindle taper over time. Just remember the meter reads motor load, not actual cutting force, so a heavy DOC can look fine while your tool deflection is way worse than you think. Backing off the feed was probably the right call, but check your tool wear after, that's usually where the real surprise shows up.
