That Thursday last month when my Haas wouldn't hold tolerance on a simple aluminum part for 8 hours straight
I was ready to scrap the whole batch and blame the machine, but one of the old-timers came over, watched me run through my offsets twice, then pointed out my coolant mix was way too watery and a fresh batch fixed everything in 20 minutes, has anyone else had a random coolant ratio issue kill their finish?

Dude that coolant ratio thing got me too. I was fighting a finish on some 6061 for like two days straight, swapped every tool, checked backlash, the works. One guy just looked at my coolant and said "smells weak" - sure enough a fresh heavy mix fixed it right up. Drove me crazy.

Old shop I used to work at had a guy who could tell if the coolant was off just by looking at the chips, turned out he was right about every machine on the floor. Never seen anything like it before or since.
