Thought a Swiss screw machine job would be easy money last month, turns out I was way off
Took a job at a shop in Aurora running a Citizen L20 for a batch of 5,000 tiny brass pins. I figured it would be quick since the cycle time was under 8 seconds, but I blew through 14 guide bushings in two weeks because nobody warned me to check the coolant concentration on that machine. Turns out the stuff was mixed way too lean and it was killing the bushings before I even hit 200 parts. Wondering if anyone else has had a Swiss job eat tooling like that, or if I just got handed a bad setup.
