I paid $180 for a coding bootcamp crash course and the teacher spent day one teaching us to center a div
OK so about 6 months ago I got laid off from my warehouse job and decided I was finally going to learn to code, real code, not just messing around with HTML on Neopets back in the day. I saw this ad for a weekend crash course, $180 for two days, promise was you would build your first app by Sunday. Saturday morning I show up at this rented office space in Columbus with 14 other people and our instructor, who I swear was maybe 22, starts writing CSS on a whiteboard. For TWO HOURS. The whole first day was centering a div, which apparently is a running joke in this world but nobody told me that, I thought this was just what coding was. Day two got better and we did build a tiny to-do list app, and honestly that little win hooked me, I have been doing free stuff online ever since. But $180 for a div lesson still stings a bit, the guy next to me said he dropped $400 on the full course and I did not have the heart to ask him how it went. Now I am working through a free site for beginners and getting stuck on loops, so my question is this: was that weekend actually a waste, or is there something about suffering through CSS early that makes the later stuff click? I need to hear from people who went the cheap route or the paid route, what actually got you past the beginner wall?

I used to roll my eyes at the div thing too, like who cares about boxes. But after months of free sites I get it now, CSS teaches you how the page thinks before you make it do stuff, and that mess made loops way less scary later.
