My messy first JavaScript file from 8 months ago vs the one I rewrote last night
I pulled up my very first JavaScript file from 8 months ago just to see how bad it was, and wow, 200 lines of code with variables named stuff and thing2 and no comments anywhere. Last night I rewrote the whole thing in 40 lines using functions, and it actually runs without throwing errors every third click. The big change came from a free Codecademy course on scope that finally made functions click for me. I sat there for 2 hours just renaming variables and breaking stuff into small pieces, and it felt weirdly good. Does anyone else keep their old beginner code around just to feel better about themselves, or do you delete it out of shame?
