TIL my "hello world" ran twice because I forgot to close a tag in HTML

I spent 3 hours last Tuesday trying to figure out why my text showed up twice on the page, turns out I left an extra

tag open at the end and the browser just kept going, has anyone else been tripped up by something that dumb in their first week of learning?
