A barista in Portland told me to quit weighing my beans before grinding and it fixed my pour over
I've been dumping 22 grams of beans on the scale, then grinding, then into the V60 for like two years. A barista at a shop on Division in Portland watched me do my home routine once and said "weigh after you grind, not before." Turns out my cheap grinder holds onto about a gram and a half in the chute, so I was actually brewing closer to 20.5 grams every single time without knowing it. I started weighing the grounds in the basket instead, and my cups went from thin and sour to way more balanced overnight. Cost me nothing to change, just three extra seconds of dumping grounds back and forth. The 1.5 gram difference doesn't sound like much but it's a 7 percent swing in my ratio at that dose. Anyone else weigh after grinding, or am I the last one to figure this out?
