A customer's note on my pour over changed my whole routine
About two years back, I was doing a small landscaping job for a guy who had a really nice home coffee setup. He saw me making my morning coffee with a pour over and just said, 'You're pouring way too fast, man. It's not a race.' I was basically dumping the water in 30 seconds. He showed me his method, pouring slow in circles for about 3 and a half minutes total. I tried it the next day and the coffee was so much smoother, no bitter edge at all. I've been doing it that way ever since, and it made me pay more attention to the little steps. Has anyone else had a simple tip like that flip a switch for them?

My 30 second pour tastes just fine, actually.

Just because it tastes fine to you @riley956 doesn't mean it's the best it could be lol. A longer pour pulls out more flavor, that's just how the coffee works.

Seriously? Sometimes the "right" way just makes things worse. I tried that slow pour thing once and my coffee tasted weak and boring, like hot brown water. My old fast method gave it a kick that actually woke me up. Maybe @riley956 is onto something and some of us just prefer a stronger, quicker cup. Not every fancy technique is an upgrade for everyone.
