Bought a $60 'cold brew' maker that just made a mess...

I saw this fancy glass tower thing online last month and thought it would make cafe style cold brew at home. It took over an hour to set up, dripped all over my counter, and the coffee it made tasted weak and sour. I followed the instructions twice and it was just a total waste of beans and time. Has anyone found a simple, foolproof way to make good cold brew without all the fuss?

Is it really that big of a deal though? I just use a big jar and a strainer, takes two minutes. All those gadgets seem like they exist to make a simple thing feel fancy and hard. Maybe just return the tower and keep it basic.

Wait, you're just using a regular kitchen strainer? That must leave so much pulp in the drink. @iris441, the whole point is getting that smooth texture without bits floating in it. My old method with a mesh sieve took forever and still let tiny seeds through. The tower catches everything, so you get clear juice fast. It's a totally different result.

Wait seriously you're just pouring it through a regular strainer and calling it done? I had to scroll back up and read that twice. The last time I tried that with some fresh pressed ginger juice the stream was so weak it took like 15 minutes just to get a cup. And there was still gritty sediment at the bottom that made the whole thing cloudy and weird. A nut milk bag would at least get you mostly clear liquid but a tower setup is a whole different league of filtration speed and clarity. Like comparing a garden hose to a fire hydrant basically.
