Cold brew snobbery got me, I was wrong about coarse grind

I've been doing cold brew for like 4 years with a regular drip grind and it tasted fine to me. Then my buddy who works at a shop in Austin made me try his batch with a much coarser grind, same beans, same 18 hours. I honestly thought he was just being fancy and it wouldn't matter. But the difference was huge, way less bitter and actually sweeter. He said it's about surface area and extraction, which I ignored for ages. I felt kinda dumb for arguing with him about it for 10 minutes before I even tasted it. Anyone else had a coffee habit they defended hard until someone proved them wrong in one sip?

Yeah, did you ever think bitterness was just part of the deal until someone showed you it wasn't? Same thing happened to me with French press.
