DAE think coffee tasted better when it was just about the chat?

Honestly, I was at a cafe yesterday and everyone was on their phones or laptops. Tbh, I miss when coffee shops were for hanging out and talking with friends. Ngl, now it feels like we're all just there to work or take pics of our drinks. It's not the same vibe as before. Maybe I'm just stuck in the past, but those simple times were nice.

As a personal trainer I spend so much time in these sterile gym environments that feel like a weird perma-business meeting, I almost forgot what a real third place even looks like. I remember my old apartment complex had this beat-up lounge with a broken vending machine and stained couch that was basically the unofficial town square for anyone who lived there. Now I'm lucky if I get a solid conversation in with a client between sets. Maybe these places didn't exactly vanish - maybe we just stopped treating them like they mattered.

Third places disappearing" really hits hard. It feels like it happened so fast. All those spots we took for granted, the corner diners and local malls, just gone in what feels like a few years. It's sad to see the backdrop of everyday life just vanish.
