French press vs aeropress for daily use. One won by a landslide.
I spent about 3 months bouncing between a French press and an Aeropress for my morning coffee. Started with the French press because it was cheap and everyone talks it up. But man, that sludge at the bottom of the cup drove me nuts after a while. Plus cleaning the mesh filter was a pain. Switched to the Aeropress about 6 weeks ago and it's just way cleaner. The coffee comes out smooth with no grit, and cleanup takes like 30 seconds. I use a medium grind and let it steep for a minute, then press. My only gripe is it only makes one cup at a time. Anyone else find the French press overrated once they tried something else?

Hold up, I gotta disagree hard on this one. I've been using a French press for years and the sludge issue is totally fixable. Just pour your coffee through a regular cone filter after you press it. Takes ten extra seconds and you get that clean cup without losing the body. Plus I can make enough for two or three people in one go without breaking out extra gear. I had an Aeropress for like two weeks and felt like I was brewing a science experiment every morning. The cleanup is easy yeah, but I missed that fuller, richer flavor you get from the press. To each their own, but I think the French press gets a bad rap from people who never dialed in their technique.

Wait, you had an Aeropress for TWO WEEKS and gave up? @scott.grace, that's like the first week of the honeymoon phase where everything's new and exciting, not the long term relationship. I mean, I get it, I almost returned mine after a week because I kept getting bitter shots and the plunger would slip, but once I figured out the inverted method and a 2 minute steep, it turned into my go-to for single cups. The French press trick with the cone filter is smart though, never thought of that.
