I used to think you were crazy for weighing your beans...

Our barista at Brew Lab in Portland finally made me see it. He said 'volume is a lie' while pouring exactly 18.5 grams into the portafilter. I took my $30 scale home and tried it with my morning brew. Now I get it - my cups aren't bitter one minute and sour the next, they're actually consistent. Has anyone else had a snobby barista talk you into measuring?

Yeah, thought it was pretentious until I tried it myself.

Totally get that @blair_davis50, it's funny how we write stuff off until we actually give it a shot. It's like how I thought sourdough bread was just a trend until I made my own starter and realized it's actually kind of amazing. Makes you wonder how many other things we're missing out on because they look too fancy.
