Just had to pick between a pour-over cone and a French press for my morning routine

I spent two weeks going back and forth on this after my old drip machine died. I went with the pour-over cone because I heard it gives you more control over the brew. First week was rough, I messed up the water temperature twice and got bitter coffee. Now after 10 days I can finally taste the difference in flavor compared to my old French press. The cleanup is way easier too, just rinse the filter and dump the grounds. Has anyone else here made the switch and found it worth the learning curve?

I mean, I get the excitement but is it really that deep? You're literally just pouring hot water over coffee grounds. I've used a French press for like six years and I've never had a day where I messed up the water temp so bad I got bitter coffee. Maybe it's just me but I feel like people overcomplicate this stuff. You're talking about a 10 day learning curve for something that takes 3 minutes. I'd rather just have my French press where I dump in grounds, pour water, wait 4 minutes and done. No special filters or cone needed. But hey if you like the ritual more power to you.

Totally feel you on that, @michael880, but I actually used to be on your side until I tried a pour over setup from a friend. It just clicked for me in a way the French press never did. Your mileage may vary, but for me it's worth the extra two minutes in the morning.
