My $11 pour over setup from a Seattle thrift store in 2019 still makes better cups than my $200 machine
Three years ago I found a ceramic dripper at a Goodwill in Seattle for $11 and figured why not. Last month I finally bought a $200 drip machine with a timer and all that, mostly because I got lazy about mornings. After two weeks of side by side testing with the same beans from a local roaster on Capitol Hill, I went back to the cheap ceramic thing. The machine runs too hot and the bed goes uneven every single time, no matter how I grind. My old setup just needs a kettle I already had and 3 minutes of pouring in circles. So now the fancy machine sits in a cabinet and I feel dumb about the money. Has anyone else gone backwards on gear after upgrading, or is it just me?
