My backyard pour over station got invaded by bees last Saturday

I set up my little brew bench on the patio in Portland, right near my lavender bushes, and pulled out my gooseneck kettle. I ground 32 grams of a light Ethiopian roast and started my slow spiral pour when the first bee landed on the rim of my V60. Within two minutes there were at least 12 of them circling the dripper, all drawn to the sweet floral smell of the coffee blooming. I tried waving them off but one got bold and landed right in my slurry, so I had to dump the whole batch and run inside. Turns out my neighbor's hive had swarmed and they were looking for any sugary scent, and my brew was the closest thing around. I ended up brewing a quick cup with my aeropress inside instead, but the damage was done. Has anyone else had bugs or critters ruin a brewing session outdoors, and what do you do to keep them away without covering your setup?
