My barista friend insisted I try a $20 bag of single-origin Ethiopian beans, and I finally caved last week.
The floral and citrus notes were so strong it completely changed how I judge my morning cup, so what's the best light roast you've tried that actually lives up to the hype?

That Ethiopian coffee really opens your eyes, doesn't it? Read a piece last year about a small roaster in Colorado doing amazing things with a washed Kenyan. The tasting notes said black tea and currant, which sounded weird, but it was honestly the cleanest, brightest cup I've ever had. It made my usual grocery store beans taste like muddy water. Finding a roaster who nails the light roast without any baked or grassy flavors is the real trick. The good ones are worth every penny for that kind of flavor change.

Honestly that whole light roast obsession feels like a flex for people with too much time and money. A dark roast from the grocery store is just a solid, reliable cup of coffee, not muddy water. All those fancy tasting notes just sound made up to charge twenty bucks a bag. Sometimes you just want a hot drink that tastes like coffee, not a fruit salad.

Used to agree with johnson.adam, then a friend made me a real light roast. Kinda get it now, it's just a different drink.
