My brother insisted I try a pinch of salt in my coffee grounds
He swore it would cut the bitterness in my morning cup. I thought he was messing with me, but I tried it last Tuesday with my usual dark roast. Used maybe an eighth of a teaspoon in the basket before brewing. The result was wild, it actually made the coffee taste smoother and a bit sweeter. I've been doing it for a week now and I'm a total convert. Has anyone else tried this weird trick, or is my brother just a secret coffee genius?

Tried it once and it just made my coffee taste like salty coffee. Maybe it depends on the roast or the water?

Honestly @margaret_wright50, a tiny pinch in the grounds just makes mine taste smoother, not salty at all.

Salt in coffee, huh? Guess that's one way to wake up with a raised blood pressure and a confused tongue. Maybe you accidentally used the fancy pink Himalayan salt instead of table salt, that stuff is weirdly sweet. Or maybe your water is just salty enough already, like living in a salt mine with a Keurig. Either way, stick to sugar or a splash of milk unless you're trying to replicate that one time you licked a pretzel stick and sipped coffee at the same time.
