Overheard a guy say pour-over is 'just hot water through dirt'

I was in line at the roastery on 4th Ave and this guy behind me was dead serious about it, and I almost turned around to say something but didn't. Has anyone else had to bite their tongue when someone talks down on a method they clearly never tried properly?
