Pro tip: the guy who ran the shop on 5th made his own grounds and I stopped worrying about my grinder
Back in March I brought my burr grinder into a little repair shop on 5th Street because it kept jamming, and the older guy behind the counter asked what beans I was using before he even looked at the machine. When I told him I only buy pre-ground to save time, he laughed and said freshly ground beans are what make the cup, not the price of your gear. I argued with him for maybe ten minutes because I thought a $200 grinder was the whole point, but he pulled out a cheap hand grinder and made me a cup right there on his back counter. The smell alone was different, and now I grind every morning, even though it takes an extra two minutes. Has anyone else had a repair guy change how they actually brew at home?
