Dropped $310 on a community garden plot in Denver and got nothing but dead tomatoes
So I paid $310 for a full season plot at a community garden near Cheesman Park back in April, and I'm trying to figure out if I'm the problem or the garden is. The folks running it swear the soil is fine and blame the weird June hail, but half the plots around me look like a jungle while mine is basically a tomato graveyard. On the other side, some people in the group chat say you have to amend the dirt yourself and the fee is just for the water and the fence. I put in 14 plants and got maybe 3 sad cherry tomatoes total, which comes out to about $100 a tomato. Do I call it a wash and skip next season, or is there a trick to these city plots I'm missing?
