Figured out the bulletin board at Hartley's Hardware beats the app I used for 2 years
For 2 years I swore by an app to find local stuff and swap leads, and I told everybody in my building it was the best way. Then a pipe burst in my basement on a Sunday in March, and the app gave me 6 people who never called back. I walked to Hartley's Hardware on 5th to buy a shutoff valve and saw an index card on their corkboard: a retired plumber named Ray, $40 an hour, cash. He was at my house in 45 minutes and fixed it, plus he knew a guy for my gutters. Since then I check that board on Tuesdays when the new cards go up, and I've gotten a notary, a bike guy, and 3 cheap cords of wood off it. The app shows me ads dressed up like neighbors, the board shows me actual neighbors. Where do you all post stuff like this, is it church halls, laundromats, or something I'm missing?
Watched my neighbor pull a whole list of reliable guys off the board at the coin laundry on Oak, people tape cards right by the dryers so you read them while you wait. Church halls work too but you gotta catch the right day, usually Sunday after service when everyone's still hanging around.
