Watched a guy at the Cleveland library ask for book recs from strangers and now I do it too
Last month I was killing time at the main library branch in Cleveland waiting out a rainstorm when I overheard this older guy walk up to the reference desk and ask if he could talk to other people reading in the room for suggestions. The librarian actually helped him set up a little sign that said "what are you reading, is it good" and within 20 minutes like 5 people were trading paperbacks. I grabbed a mystery from a retired teacher named Dorothy and finished it in 4 days, which is fast for me since I usually pick the same 3 authors over and over. The weird part is I never would have found that book on my own because the cover was boring and the title made no sense. Now when I finish something good I leave a sticky note inside the front cover with my first name and one line about why I liked it, and I've found 3 notes from other people in used books since then. It made me realize I was treating book picks like a private thing when really the best ones come from random people in a room. Does anyone else leave notes in books for strangers, or is that weird?
