Why does nobody talk about the $40 hand truck that outlasted my $300 cart
Ten years back I ran a little hauling setup out of a storage unit in Modesto and figured I needed real gear, so I dropped around $300 on one of those folding carts with the fancy wheels. That thing lasted eight months before a weld cracked and the wheel started wobbling on every load. Meanwhile a beat up hand truck I grabbed at a yard sale for $40 just kept going, I put new tires on it maybe twice and that was it. I loaned it to a neighbor for a move and he tried to buy it off me for triple what I paid, which tells you plenty. These days I tell people to skip the carts and just get a solid hand truck and a good strap, way less stuff to break on you. On the other hand, I also blew about $120 on a cheap pressure washer once that died in one season, so money spent cheap is not always money spent smart. What is the one cheap tool or item you bought years ago that is still going, and what was the thing you paid real money for that let you down?
