A weird trick with a rubber band fixed a laptop hinge for me last month
I had a client bring in an old Dell Latitude with a loose hinge that wouldn't stay open. The plastic mount inside the lid was cracked, and a full repair would have meant taking the whole screen apart. I remembered seeing a trick online and tried it: I looped a small, thick rubber band around the hinge pin and the remaining good plastic post. It added just enough friction to hold the screen at any angle. The client was happy to avoid a $150 screen assembly replacement. Has anyone else used a simple hardware fix like this for a broken hinge?
