Backup software fight: Acronis vs Macrium, 3 restores in 2 days

I had to pick between paying for Acronis again or switching to the free Macrium Reflect for my shop's client machines. Went with Macrium because 8 of 10 older PCs choked on Acronis boot media. First restore took 40 minutes on a 2015 Dell, second one failed on a bad SATA cable, third worked but I had to tweak the partition layout manually. Now I'm wondering if the $70 per year for Acronis was actually worth the smoother driver handling. Has anyone else made this jump and seen worse results on newer NVMe drives?

Did your buddy ever try that free version of Macrium on a newer drive? My friend Mike had the same setup, switched over and his NVMe restore took forever cause it kept messing with the alignment. He gave up and just went back to Acronis after two days of fighting it.
