Rant: I called BS on thermal camera diagnostics for 6 years, then one $200 FLIR found a bad breaker in 10 seconds | Computer Technicians - Pinecone Attack
Been running thermal cams on panels for years and yeah they pay for themselves fast. One thing nobody tells you starting out, you gotta have actual load on the circuit or you won't see jack. That bad breaker showed up hot because something was pulling current through it, but if you scan an idle panel everything looks the same temp. Also watch for reflected heat off the sun hitting the dead front, it'll fake you out every time. Get yourself a cheap IR thermometer too so you can double check hotspots the camera flags. And shoot panels with the cover on first, then pull it if you see something, way safer and you catch breaker and lug issues that way.
