Vent: A client's 'simple' thermal paste swap ended with a fried Ryzen 5 5600X
They insisted on watching and bumped my hand while I was seating the cooler, cracking the corner of the die. Has anyone else had a client cause damage during a repair they insisted on observing?

Honestly saw a tech video once where a guy talked about uneven cooler pressure being a real problem on those chips. Tbh if the client jostled you during the final twist, it could have tilted the bracket just enough to put all the force on one corner. Ngl that's a nightmare scenario, having someone mess with your focus like that. Really makes you want to have a strict no hover policy for anything delicate.

...and that's why I always tell people to just not watch over my shoulder, even if they think they're being helpful. Had a buddy who was swapping a car battery and his girlfriend leaned on the hood just as he was torquing the terminal, cracked the plastic housing clean in half. Some stuff looks tough until you add the wrong little force at the worst possible moment.

Come on, a little bump cracked the die? Those things are tougher than that. Sounds like maybe the cooler was already on way too tight or something was off before they even touched you. I've had people breathing down my neck before and it's annoying, but that's a pretty extreme result from a simple nudge.
