Big pour went sideways in Charlotte, my crew thinks I panicked

We were finishing a 3,000 square foot slab for a warehouse loading dock last Tuesday when the pump truck lost pressure mid-pour, leaving us with a wet edge that started to set before we could catch it. I made the call to burn back and re-trowel that section twice instead of just screeding it flat again, and the finish came out streaky even though the concrete was still workable. Do you guys trust your instinct to double-work a section at the tail end of a pour, or do you always stick with the original plan even when it looks rough?
