Bought a $400 magnesium float for a big warehouse floor job

It was supposed to cut down on hand finishing time, but the thing kept leaving dark streaks in the surface cream. I ended up going back to my old aluminum one to finish the pour. Has anyone found a good way to break in a new magnesium float without marking up the slab?

Try scuffing it on a rough concrete block first.

Yeah, that concrete block trick @felix385 mentioned is a solid move. I read a whole forum thread last year about prepping new shoes for better grip, and that was the top tip. People were doing it with work boots before walking on wet restaurant floors. It totally tears up that slick factory finish so you don't wipe out. What kind of shoes are you trying to fix?
