Can we settle this: screeding with a laser vs trusting your eye on a 40 foot slab?
I did a 40 by 60 pour in Bend last summer and my old school partner swore he could screed it by eye without a laser. We argued for 20 minutes and then he bet me 50 bucks he could hold a quarter inch across the whole thing. By the time we pulled the forms his low spot was almost half an inch and we spent two hours fixing it before the mud set. Now I am wondering if I was wrong to push so hard, or if he was just having a bad day. Anyone here still screeding by eye on big flatwork, or is that a losing bet every time?
