DAE remember when we finished a whole driveway with just a wood float and a hose?
I was pouring a 12 by 24 slab for a guy out in Glendale about 8 weeks ago and caught myself grabbing the power trowel before I even had the edges bull floated. Back in the day, I mean when I started running my own crew in the late 90s, we did everything by hand. Wood floats, magnesium floats, and a heck of a lot of elbow grease. We would finish a whole driveway with nothing but a hose for the fog mist and a steady arm. Now I got a ride on trowel that does in 20 minutes what used to take me and two guys half a day. It's faster, sure, but sometimes I miss feeling the cream set up under my knees, you know? That old way taught you to read the concrete, not just run a machine. Any of you older finishers still keep a hand float in the truck just for the corners, or am I the only one who won't let that go?
