Just realized I was over-troweling for 8 years, power trowel changed everything

I used to think more passes meant a denser, better finish. Last month on a 4,000 sq ft garage floor in Austin, I noticed the surface getting that chalky, dusty look no matter how much I worked it. A guy from the next crew over pointed out I was closing the surface too early and trapping bleed water. He had me back off the machine and let it set up a bit longer before finishing. Cut my finishing time by a third and the slab looked way better. Anybody else fight the urge to keep troweling when you should just wait?

Funny how that works, most things in life are about knowing when to back off, not pushing harder. Same reason I stopped hovering over my kid's homework, letting it sit sometimes does more than forcing it.

Ever tried backing off when the pressure is on and watched it actually work? I did that with my nephew's basketball training last year. Kid was freezing up during drills, so I stopped correcting every little thing. Gave him space to mess up on his own. Two weeks later he came back asking for help on his own terms. Same with my own workouts, sometimes skipping a day fixes more than grinding through it. The trick is knowing when you're being lazy versus when you're giving it room to breathe.
