My uncle swore by adding a splash of cola to the mix for a smoother finish

He said he'd done it for thirty years on driveways in Spokane. I tried it on a small patio job last month, and it just made the concrete set weird and sticky. Spent an extra hour trying to fix the finish. Anyone else ever get a piece of advice that sounded good but just made a mess?

Honestly it's just concrete, not a science project. People get way too into these old tricks that probably never worked right. Your uncle might believe it, but that doesn't mean it's good advice. Sometimes the standard way exists for a reason. You tried it, it messed up, so now you know. No need to overcomplicate things.
