Old foreman in Texas told me I was washing out too much cream from the mix
He said I was leaving too much aggregate exposed and causing weak edges. Now I back off the water and let the fines stay, edges hold up way better now. Anybody else get chewed out for overworking the surface?

That line about "overworking the surface" hit home for me... I had a boss in Arizona who'd yell at me for the same thing, said I was making the mix soupy and ruining the whole batch. Once I learned to back off and keep that cream on top, my edges stopped crumbling and the finish stayed way tighter.

Yeah @allen.amy my old foreman had the same rule. Keep the trowel light and stop obsessing. Once I stopped trying to perfect every inch my slabs stayed way cleaner. Less cracking too.
