Remembering a pour from three years ago at the old Miller warehouse site

We had a big slab to finish, maybe 40 yards, and the boss brought in this new laser screed machine that did in an hour what used to take four of us half a day with hand tools. It was wild to watch, but it felt like some of the old skill of just reading the mud was getting lost. Do you guys ever feel like the new gear makes the job easier but changes the craft a bit too much?

That laser screed is a beast, saw one lay down a whole basement floor in like 45 minutes. I'm over here still proud of myself for getting a 10-foot section flat with just a mag and a darby, lmao. It's like the machine knows the mud better than I do now. Makes you wonder if my best skill is just not tripping over the power cord.

Lmao "my best skill is just not tripping over the power cord" - that hit too close to home. I spent half an hour yesterday untangling mine from my boots while the concrete was getting stiff. Real talk though, those laser screeds make me feel like I'm working with training wheels on.

That machine's a cheat code for flatwork.
