Tbh, had to choose between a $400 magnesium float and a $120 aluminum one for this massive garage slab in Omaha. Went cheap and it was a huge mistake.

Aluminum warps under big slabs, leaves a bad finish.

What exactly went wrong with the aluminum one?

Three 4x8 sheets and it still looked wavy, I was wrong about aluminum.
