The older finisher who watched me spread mud on a hot slab last Tuesday changed my whole approach
I was working a driveway in Phoenix last week, temp was pushing 105. This retired finisher, must have been 70 years old, parked his truck and just watched me for a bit. He walked over and said 'son, you're fighting the concrete instead of letting it tell you what it needs.' He pointed out I was spraying too much water on the surface to keep it workable, which was weakening the top layer. We talked for 20 minutes about reading the set time by how the bleed water behaves. Has anyone else had an old timer call out a bad habit you didn't even know you had?

Funny how that works, a 20 minute lesson from a random stranger can undo years of bad habits you picked up from doing it the hard way. Makes you wonder how many other shortcuts we're taking that actually cost us.
