Why does nobody talk about the pour that went bad at the Wichita job because of a 20 minute lunch break
Back in 2019 I was on a 4,000 sq ft warehouse slab in Wichita and we broke for lunch right after the bull float pass. Came back 20 minutes later and the edge had already set up hard enough that the edger was tearing instead of slicking. We ended up with a cold joint you could feel with a fingernail and the GC made us grind and patch 60 feet of it. That was the day I stopped trusting the clock and started trusting my thumb. Now I pack a sandwich and eat it standing on the forms, because the mud does not care about your break. If the mix has any accelerant in it, 20 minutes is a lifetime. Foreman still gives me grief about not sitting down but he was not the one on his knees with a trowel cussing. How do you all handle lunch on a big flat pour, do you stagger guys or just eat fast and pray?
