My cousin argued that the 'birds aren't real' thing is just a joke to distract from actual drone surveillance
We were at a cookout last weekend and he said, 'The joke isn't that birds are drones, it's that we accept drones everywhere now.' It made me realize I'd never actually looked into who funds that whole meme campaign. Has anyone else dug into that?

My buddy in Denver said the exact same thing about the meme being a cover story. I checked the website once and the donation page was weirdly slick for a joke.

A slick donation page doesn't automatically mean a deep conspiracy. People make professional looking joke sites all the time, it's not hard. Could just be some folks having a laugh and seeing if anyone actually sends cash. Everyone's so quick to assume everything's a cover for something bigger now.

The whole thing with that site is the attention to detail. I spent about twenty minutes poking around the source code and found hidden metadata tags that linked to a shell company registered in Delaware. That's not something you throw together for a joke. Real money went into making that page look legitimate. And the PayPal link bypassed the standard donation flow. I've seen enough sketchy stuff on the road to know when something doesn't add up.
