I set my laser level on top of my truck toolbox for 6 jobs before a guy in Lubbock pointed at the wall
Back around 2021 I got lazy and started setting the laser level up on the toolbox of my truck instead of a tripod. It saved like 2 minutes each time so I just kept doing it. Last March a tile guy in Lubbock stared at a wall I had just framed and asked why the top plate sat 5/8 inch high on the left side. Turns out the toolbox lid sagged just enough that the laser was never truly level, and I never checked it since the beam looked straight to me. I went back through my notes and 6 of my last 9 partitions had a little drift I had blamed on the lumber. Now the thing lives on a $30 tripod and gets a quick check against a chalk line before I trust it. Has anyone else had a shortcut that quietly cost them on a slow creep like that?
