Laser level calibration gone wrong on the I-5 bridge job

Last Thursday we set up a PLS-5 on the south pier and it was reading 3/4" off from the morning's survey. Turns out the tool sat in a truck cab all winter and the internal mount shifted. Foreman told me 'it's fine, just split the difference' which would've thrown the whole deck pour off by $18,000 in rework. Has anyone else dealt with a mangled calibration after cold storage, or do we all just trust the bubble now?
