My laser level saga that took 3 days to figure out
I spent 3 days trying to get a Bosch self leveling laser to stop drifting on a wall layout. Turns out the tripod base was slightly warped from sitting in a hot truck. Anyone else have laser tools act up from heat damage?

My buddy Mike bought a brand new Dewalt laser last summer and it kept throwing his lines off by almost a quarter inch after about 20 minutes of use. He was ready to return it before he noticed the case was sitting on the concrete floor of his van in direct sun for two days straight. After he let it cool down in the shade for a few hours the thing worked perfectly again. Heat does weird stuff to the electronics and the internal sensors in those things, not just the tripod base.

Man I had the same thing happen with my Bosch unit last spring, left it in the bed of my truck under a tarp and thought it was toast. Took me a whole day of fiddling and swapping batteries before i remembered the heat thing and let it sit in my basement overnight. Now I always keep a spare cooler in the truck for it when the temp climbs, cheap insurance compared to dropping another 400 bucks on a new one.
