Picked a laser level over my old string line for framing a 24x24 garage in Bakersfield, still not sure I won
I've been setting batter boards with a string line since I was 19, so when my nephew pushed me to try his rotary laser on a 24x24 garage in Bakersfield I almost said no. First day it was great, I had all four corners squared in about 15 minutes instead of my usual 45. Then the wind picked up on day two and the receiver kept losing the beam, so I was chasing red dots instead of just eyeballing a line. String doesn't care about wind, and it doesn't care if the batteries die. I ended up using the laser for the footings and pulling string for the wall plates because I trust my hands more than a beep. Now the laser sits in the truck most days unless I'm doing something long and open. Anyone else find that the fancy tool only wins on certain jobs?
