Found a GeoCities fan page for a diner in Tulsa that closed in 2001, and the guestbook still gets posts
I was bored at my desk in Dallas on a Tuesday night and fell down a rabbit hole looking up old diners my dad used to take me to. One search led me to a GeoCities page someone built in 1998 for the Silver Skillet in Tulsa. It closed in 2001 when the owner passed away, but the site is still up, hit counter stuck around 11,000, marquee text and all. The weird part is the guestbook. People still sign it, maybe once every month or two. The newest entry was from 6 weeks ago. A woman wrote that she had her first date there in 1987 and still thinks about the pie. I sat there reading entries from 1999 and 2023 back to back and it felt like the site never got the memo that the place is gone. I bookmarked it and now I check the guestbook every Sunday like it's the news. Has anyone else found an old site where the comments never stopped, even after the thing it was about disappeared?
